Yorkville was first settled by pioneers in 1836. What once was a city with horses, buggies and carts has developed into a fast growing town. Even with the growth of Yorkville throughout the years, the town has managed to maintain its small town charm. Bridge Street (Illinois Route 47) was originally developed for horse-drawn carriages, but now serves as a main street in Yorkville, in which the remaining historical homes are within walking distance of this bridge. Yorkville offers many festivals and recreational activities for anyone visiting or living in Yorkville. Yorkville has an abundance of parks, in which each of them has a special characterisitc or theme, the newest park to Yorkville is Bristol Bay. Major employers include: Yorkville School District #115, Kendall County and United City of Yorkville.

The 2011 movie, "Man of Steel" was filmed at a house in Yorkville that was built specifically for the movie set.
