Gilberts

Growing with Vision

Settlement in Gilbert's is believed to have been started early on in 1812, with the Pottawatomie and Blackhawk tribes inhabiting the area, which was known as an area of rolling hills. After the war, a general took over the land and soon after pioneers made their way to Gilbert's and called it home. By the late 1800's, Gilberts was showing signs of a rapidly growing community; there was the development of the train station, two blacksmith shops, two grocery stores, a local jail and a brick and tile company which employed roughly twenty people. In 1972 the town's first paved route (route 72) was developed which became a main roadway for residents. The town has continued to rapidly grow with a population of 7x what it was 10 years ago. Today Gilbert's is a town of residential, business and manufacturing establishments, while still maintaining the remote and quaint living environment that residents enjoy.
