A City Second to None

Aurora's downtown area was once home to a Native American Village. After the Black Hawk War the McCarty Brothers took over the land on both sides of the Fox River in Aurora and later sold the West side to the Lake Brothers. In 1837 a post office was opened, this is when the town officially became Aurora. What once started as a mid-sized manufacturing city, has grown tremendously over the years. The town is divided in to three regions; The West Side, The East Side and The Far East Side. With the redevelopment of Aurora's historic areas, the culturally diverse population and the development of Hollywood Casino , Aurora's population today is at an all time high. Residents The largest employers in Aurora are Caterpillar, a large manufacturing company, Hollywood Casino Aurora and  Rush-Copley Medical Center.
